A career lyricist who defies categorization, 3X Grammy-nominated Pamela Phillips Oland writes in styles from R&B to country, pop to rock, jazz to gospel. Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Selena, Frank Sinatra, Peabo Bryson, Reba McIntyre, the Jacksons, and Gladys Knight are among 400-plus artists who’ve recorded her songs. The CMA-winner’s extensive movie work includes her 2004 Genie Award-nominated “Best song in a Motion Picture” for “Blizzard,” the opening and end-title song “Digga Digga Dog” for 102 Dalmatians, and love themes for “Coming to America” and “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.” Her TV work includes J*A*G, The Sopranos, Xena: Warrior Princess, Crayola Kids Adventures, and all songs (music & lyrics) for the multi-award-winning Kids Ten Commandments.

Long ago, Oland began teaching songwriting so that she could “give back” by helping other young writers to learn the craft of writing great songs. “There is more to it than just writing the first thing that comes to mind,” she says. “You need to know how to make the audience connect to what you’ve written.” With this in mind, she taught Advanced Songwriting at UCLA for 8 years, then wrote two popular songwriting books, “The Art of Writing Great Lyrics” and “The Art of Writing Love Songs.” Songwriter groups have invited her from all over the United States, as well as Australia, Denmark, Finland and Russia , to speak to their groups and help them on their way to becoming the best songwriters they can possibly be.
